it was 8 years ago

8 years ago, i got into my first major car wreck. Put my head and my brothers into the windshield of my first truck. He had his eye lid cut off and i had a major concussion leaving me without memory of that summer and double vision for a long time afterwards.

My second wreck happend in 2004 in my mustang at the same corner of the road as my first one. This one i was hardly injured. It was 4 years ago sometime this month..

needless to say with, with simple mathematics you can conclude that i am due for another major wreck soon. We can only hope i make out well this time around also.

With only 1,448 days until election day 2012, Ron Paul ponders another run

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2008/11/ron-paul-2012.html

With only 1,448 days left before the 2012 election, you-know-who is making plans to launch another long-shot campaign for the presidency.

So much can happen before Nov. 6, 2012: Hillary Clinton could be on the Supreme Court. the Supreme Court. Her husband could be getting $400,000 per speech.
There'll be yet another James Bond actor. Shrek IX will be showing. And Harry Reid will be scowling. Still.

Also, you can bet Rep. Ron Paul will be running for the White House again, probably as a Republican. Not so much to actually win, mind you; RP runs to make a point about less government and foreign intervention.

And anyway by then, at age 77 Paul will be the second oldest guy to launch a losing presidential campaign, behind only Ralph.

Thanks to one of our favorite libertarian writers, David Weigel over at Reason.com, we get a Ron Paul update and a peek inside the opaque window that is the perpetual Paul campaign. Weigel tells us, via Paul's grandson-in-law Jesse Benton, that the Texas congressman is pondering another run.

Benton says Paul needs to make up his mind soon, like by mid-summer next year, because "those voters in New Hampshire and Iowa expect to see their candidates early and often."

Benton says Paul "would be very likely to run as a Republican," in large part because the hated media conspiracy that allegedly ignores him so much gives him more exposure as a GOP candidate than as some kind of fringe nutjob.

With the primaries a dim memory and Paul once again back in the House for an 11th term (unopposed this November because Texas Democrats know a political tornado when they see one), people tend to forget that Paul raised nearly $35 million from his fervent fans.

That's way more than Mike Huckabee and almost as much as Mitt Romney dished out from his own funds. In fact, Paul raised more money in the third quarter last year than any other Republican.

Of course, Paul's total $35 million is only about two weeks' or less take for the '08 Barack Obama money-printing machine.

But since when have the odds ever deterred Paul?

Required civil service-change.gov

THis was cleaned up a few days ago. Anywhere you read "Setting a goal" used to say "REQUIRED"

http://change.gov/americaserves/

The Obama Administration will call on Americans to serve in order to meet the nation’s challenges. President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps. Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by setting a goal that all middle school and high school students do 50 hours of community service a year and by developing a plan so that all college students who conduct 100 hours of community service receive a universal and fully refundable tax credit ensuring that the first $4,000 of their college education is completely free. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start.

Obama’s Civil Defense Program Resembles Domestic Draft

A newly rediscovered 2006 audio clip has shed more light on Rahm Emanuel and Barack Obama’s plan for compulsory community service and a “national civilian security force”. In an interview with Ben Smith of the New York Daily News, Emanuel outlined the agenda for military-style training, essentially a domestic draft, aimed at preparing Americans for a chemical or biological terrorist attack.

Asked by Smith about the universal service plan and whether people would have to live in military barracks, Emanuel laughed before responding, “We’re going to have universal civil defense training, somewhere between the ages of 18 to 25 you will do three months of training….but there can be nothing wrong with all Americans having a joint similar experience of what we call civil defense training or civil service in service of the country, in preparation, which will give people a sense of what it means to be an American.”
In response to the point that the program was significantly expanded in comparison to what the U.S. government already has in place, Emanuel responded, “Guess what - we have a lot more challenges so we are going to need a lot to do it.”
What challenges is Emanuel referring to? The same crisis foretold by Joe Biden, Colin Powell and others that we are “guaranteed” will unfold shortly after Obama takes office?

“It will be a common experience and we will be prepared, God forbid, God forbid that there is a chemical hit, another terrorist act or natural disaster becoming more frequent - there’ll be a body of citizens who are ready and capable and trained - that’s all you have to think about,” said Emanuel before smugly declaring, “We’re all here for you OK? It’s a circle of love.”
Asked if the training would be military style, with people wearing uniforms, Emanuel stated, “If you’re worried about are you going to have to do 50 jumping jacks the answer is yes,” adding that the service could be done through state national guard.
A jumping jack is a military term for an exercise otherwise known as a star jump. What on earth does Emanuel mean when he says Americans are going to be forced to perform military-style physical exercises and what does this have to do with civil defense or preparing for a terrorist attack? It sounds more like the state-mandated physical workouts described in Orwell’s 1984.
The video then features a clip from C-Span from August 2006 in which Emanuel is asked whether the program will be compulsory, to which he responds, “In a sense it’s required of everybody, 18 to 25, three months, and at some point at that point you do it.”
The use of the word “required” is noteworthy, because this exact terminology was removed from Obama’s change.gov website when controversy over the program arose last week.
The militarized nature of the program and its supposed intention sounds more like a draft-lite than the “community service” angle now being pitched on Obama’s website. It also bears similarities to the nationwide FEMA-run program training pastors and preachers to act as “pacifiers” in the event of martial law being declared after a terror attack or a natural disaster.
Will the liberal left pay as much attention to Emanuel’s stated agenda to implement a proxy domestic draft as they did to rumors of Bush bringing back conscription, or will the true scope of Obama’s “national civilian security force” continue to fly under the radar?

Georgia Rep. Issues Warning on National Security Force, Gun Ban

Georgia Rep. Issues Warning on National Security Force, Gun Ban

In the wake of Barack Obama’s sweeping victory, at least one Congressman is warning of things to come. Rep. Paul Broun of Georgia has told the Associated Press he considers Obama a dangerous Marxist who may act on his promise to organize a domestic national security force on par with the U.S. military. “That’s exactly what Hitler did in Nazi Germany and it’s exactly what the Soviet Union did,” Broun said. “When he’s proposing to have a national security force that’s answering to him, that is as strong as the U.S. military, he’s showing me signs of being Marxist.”

On July 2 in Colorado Springs, Obama said he intends to double the size of the Peace Corps and nearly quadruple the size of AmeriCorps. In addition, he said it is mandatory the U.S. create “a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded” as the U.S. military. The U.S. Army currently stands at 500,000 troops.
Last week, Obama’s Office of the President-Elect website announced it would implement a plan designed to “require” citizens to work in community service programs, including senior citizens. In response to criticism of this plan, primarily on the web and blogosphere, the text on the site was reworded and the word “require” was removed.
“I’m just trying to bring attention to the fact that we may — may not, I hope not — but we may have a problem with that type of philosophy of radical socialism or Marxism,” said Broun.

In 1966, for example, the communist leader Mao Zedong mobilized radicalized youth into the Red Guards to attack his political rivals, including his chosen successor, Liu Shaoqi. In addition to burning books, destroying museums, temples, and heritage sites deemed counter-revolutionary, Mao’s youthful Red Guards killed more than 30 million people. The Soviet Union’s Joseph Stalin was notorious for launching purges against his political enemies. Estimates of the number of deaths associated with the Great Purge totaled nearly 2 million, although under Stalin over 23 million people lost their lives, most during the engineered Ukrainian famine.
Rep. Broun believes an Obama administration may move to ban gun ownership as it builds a national security force.
As Dave Kopel writes for the Second Amendment Project, “the best testimony to the power of an armed populace is the vigor with which the Warsaw Pact dictatorships enforced gun control. When the Communists took over Bulgaria on September 9, 1944, they immediately confiscated every weapon in private possession.” East Germany, Hungary, Poland, and Romania followed suit. “The dictatorship of Nicolai Ceausescu used registration lists to confiscate all firearms in private hands.” writes Kopel. In Hungary, Laszlo Rajk, the Communist Minister of the Interior, ordered the dissolution of all pistol and hunting clubs, as well as of other organizations which might prove a threat to government power. Ceausescu went so far as to register typewriters.
In 1938, Hitler enacted the Nazi Weapons Law (Waffengesetz) permitting only Nazis and their friends the right to own and carry weapons, especially handguns. As Joyce Rosenwald explains, the Nazi Weapons Law of March 18, 1938 serves as the blueprint for gun controls laws today in America.
“We can’t be lulled into complacency,” Broun said. “You have to remember that Adolf Hitler was elected in a democratic Germany. I’m not comparing him to Adolf Hitler. What I’m saying is there is the potential.”
According to the Associated Press, Obama has said he respects the Second Amendment right to bear arms and favors “common sense” gun laws. “Gun rights advocates interpret that as meaning he’ll at least enact curbs on ownership of assault weapons and concealed weapons. As an Illinois state lawmaker, Obama supported a ban on semiautomatic weapons and tighter restrictions on firearms generally.”
